ON THE BBQ: The Vinegar Method

If you’ve read some of our previous tips on DIY oven cleaning, you’ll know that a favourite go-to when it comes to de-greasing anything is a kitchen cupboard staple – vinegar. So, it’s not surprising that when it comes to cleaning your BBQ grill, the same applies. Grab a handy spray bottle and fill it with 2 cups of vinegar to 2 cups of lukewarm water, mixed together well. When you’ve finished cooking, simply spray your grill with the vinegar mixture and using a crumpled bit of aluminium foil or a wire brush, scrap your grill clean and rinse.  To prevent the taste of vinegar from lingering (and potentially flavouring your next meal) just give it a rinse under some warm water.

ON THE BBQ: The Onion Method

Most people suggest that the easiest way to clean any BBQ grill is when there’s still a little bit of heat from your BBQ. So, as soon as you’ve removed your t-bone steak, or chutney-marinated vegetable skewers from the grill, and you’re
pouring the final round of drinks before sitting down to eat, grab a peeled onion that’s been cut in half, stick it on the end of a fork, and rub it over the hot grill bars. The onion’s natural juices break down grease and, together with the heat, creates a great organic steam-cleaning solution to remove any stuck-on food residue.
